My Photo

a little about me: krishna

Hi, I am Krishna Joshi—a graphic designer, painter, and surface pattern artist.
I have worked as a graphic designer for over 25 years and a college professor for 10.
I began painting as a break from the largely rational process of graphic design.

I paint abstracts inspired by nature and my travels around the world.
Recently, to my joy, the two passions came together when I started creating surface patterns.

I live in the Cincinnati with my husband and daughter. My interests include travel, being outdoors,
and collecting hand-crafted objects. I also love helping children with artwork.
I have a BFA from Miami University and MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.

so who is kala?

My father is Indian and my mother American. My sister and I were born and raised in the US.
As homage to my father’s homeland, my parents named us after two South Indian rivers.

The Indian word Kala means both art and craft. It implies that objects of daily use should bring joy
through emotional engagement and practiced skill, which exactly defines my goal.
